Creatine: Not just for the Boys!
Feb 17, 2025
For as long as I can remember, creatine has been marketed almost exclusively to the male population. It has been the supplement that helps you to bulk up, gain weight and make you strong – which has never aligned with female goals…until now!
As females, we should be focusing less on the thin aesthetic and more focused on health, strength and maximizing potential. This is a supplement that can benefit ALL active individuals, and don’t worry, you won’t turn into a bulky bodybuilder overnight with the addition of this supplement.
What is creatine?
Creatine is already found in many of your food sources, particularly animal meats. After digestion, we store it in our muscle cells and use it as a form of energy.
This is our quick burst energy for activities like sprinting and jumping. Supplementing with creatine can increase your body’s stores and allow you to work harder, longer and recover faster.
What are the benefits for females?
-
Increased strength and performance – Supplementing with creatine can significantly improve your performance in activities like HIIT workouts, sprinting and sports that require bursts of high intensity like soccer or basketball. The ability to push a little bit harder during your high intensity activities will help you to ultimately build more strength and power.
-
Improved muscle recovery – In addition to getting more out of your workouts, creatine has also been shown to help reduce muscle damage and inflammation after intense exercise. This can promote a faster recovery and less soreness, getting you back to your training sooner after tough workouts!
-
Support for bone and brain health – Newer research is showing benefits to more than just muscles. More studies need to be done but recent research is showing a potential benefit to bone health with creatine supplementation. Studies are also suggesting creatine supplementation may improve both memory and focus.
How do I get started?
Before supplementing, make sure you are taking the correct form, in the correct amount and at the correct time to support your intended benefits. It is also important to make sure your supplements are third party tested and free of potential contaminants.
